Blog Response #10

Please answer both questions in your blog.

1.  Upon finishing your book, share any lessons or themes that the book has taught you or left you with.  When you look back on this book 5 or 10 years from now, what will you remember about it?  Where does this book rank in your list of all time favorites?

2.  What lessons has this class as a whole taught you?  With freedom comes responsibility. What did you learn in English 4B.

  1. I learned that the holocaust was not a joke and it was a very serious time. The way that people were mistreated was so bad and its good that people learned respect and equality. I will remember the part about the hundreds of people dying on the cattle trailers.

Its taught me about group work and the right way to write a paper, I also never knew how to write a blog or anything before and so I learned about that too.

    1. How did it teach you the right way to write a paper? Are you referring to the first trimester of class?

      Delete
    2. why would you think the Holocaust was a joke. it was the most horrific thing that could happen in all of history that involved all most entire countries at war with each other.

    3. what book did you read and did you like it.

  2. 1.) Upon finishing my book, I learned that everything in life is not permanent. Things can be taken away and there is nothing you can do about it. So don't take what you have for granted, and live each day life it could be your last. It's a good book but I don't know if it would be on my list of favorites.
2.) Well I don't know if you could really call it freedom. I got docked points for reading my book how i wanted and finishing it early.

    1. The theme seems as if it describes your personality very well. You don't take anything for granted and work for it.

    2. I agree with your number two. I was docked points for reading a lot at once.

      Delete
    3. i also agree with your number two. as long as we get our book done we should not get docked points for finsihing our book the way we want as long as we get it done

    4. I got almost half my points off of one of my reading logs for only having one very long entry.

    5. Really shouting out Mrs. B with this one

    6. Glad someone said it but you'll probably loose blog points now too because of this. She tells us to read our books how we wants but then grades us on the way she thinks we should read.

  3. 1. Upon finishing the book Saving Max I have learned to not trust everyone around you. Although through the first impression they seem kind, they may be not who they say are. This book was always adding to the characters so you never knew everything about the characters. With this way of writing it always kept me guessing who actually killed Jonas. This is one of my favorite books that I have read and would recommend it to others.
    2. This class taught me how to manage my time and assignments with all of the freedom I had. While I could just sit in class and do nothing, I would benefit from getting my assignments and readings done in class. It has also taught me how to work with my peers and discuss through disagreements.

    1. Trust is a very hard thing to earn. I hope this book doesn't close your mind on who to trust and who not to.

    2. This book sounds like a great book, and I wanna read it. I agree that this class was easy to sit around and to nothing. I sometimes catch myself doing that but I learned that in the end it not good. I know now to just do the homework in class so I wont have any outside work.

      Delete
    3. I also agree that getting the assignments done early was nice to have all the free time after to work on other homework.

    4. I agree that getting your assignments done early was beneficial and reliving to know you didn't have to go home at night and worry about getting it done.

  4. The main theme throughout The Giver is If you don't like something change it. Jonas does not believe that the way things are ran in the "utopia" of a community is the right way. He thinks that somethings are necessary for safety, but in doing so they take away so many good things. Things such as color, career path, love, and many more. Jonas doesn't like it so he leaves the community to give all of those things back.Down the road I will remember that Jonas sacrificed his entire life for the well being of the community. In order to change something you need to dedicate everything you have. This book ranks in my top five.
This class taught that if do your reading you will be just fine. Also don't forget your things or you won't be able to participate in group discussions.

    1. that's like a book I read junior year called Fahrenheit 451 that was an utopia where nobody was allowed to read and where firefighters burned books and houses if the books were found in said house and instead of firefighters putting fires out they start the fires and one firefighter disagrees with that and tries to change it risking his life.

    2. I think that's a very accurate way to describe the book. It really makes you think about the world that we have now, and how much freedom we actually have.

  5. 1)Ender's game touched on how unethical it is to raise and manipulate children to become tools of war, and the horrors of genocide.
    2) I learned that the technical term for the pope's hat is beanie. I also learned how nice it is to be left to my own devices with a single objective.

    2. My book was also about unethical things but instead of how wrong they are more of a how to be unethical to gain power. I agree the freedom made us wander off task a lot

    3. When you word it that way it looks like Ender's Game took a lot of inspiration form WWII.

  6. I think the best lesson this book has taught me is probably how to make soap and the three different ways to make napalm. Years from now when i think of this book I will probably remember how messed up it is. I don't rear a lot, so this book ranks pretty high on my list.
The freedom was okay but it seems I was docked points for reading a lot at once instead of a little over a week.

  7. so in Me And Earl And The Dying Girl the lesson I was taught was that you shouldn't bully anyone because you have no clue what they're going through/ what they have been through and don't judge people. what I will remember from reading the book would be how the main character tries to handle everything on his own with not much help. if I had to rank this book in my all time favorites it would be at rank number three; it deals with todays youth, bullying, and it has a lot of humor in it. the lesson I got from the whole class would be do your work/ don't slack until the last minute, and just get everything done that's needs to be done. participate in group discussions and say a lot of things/ write done things too.

    1. In my book Jodee also got bullied and it taught me that you should stand up for people getting bullied no matter what. Also Jodee doesn't get much help from her family till the end just like your main character.

  8. 1) The theme of The Road is never give up. Even if the world has gone to crap and nobody is on your side you have to keep pushing on. I believe it is a good theme for the book and to show optimism. When I look back at this book in five to ten years I will remember the vivid imagery of all the gruesome accounts of sadistic attacks in the wasteland. I'd say this book is in my top 5, more because I can barely remember 5 books. I'm going to list all five in no particular order: Where the Wild Things Are, The Road, Food Inc., Goodnight Moon, and Mr. Brown Can Moo Can You?.
    2) What I learned from this class is you have a bunch of freedom to finish your book when you want to. I finished all three of my books early and had a bunch of down time to do whatever I wanted.

    1. When I compare your books theme to my book I realized something. In Dune giving up was something never considered by any of the characters. They got stressed and tired from their ordeals but they never mentioned giving up. Perhaps that is what I found unique in Dune. I feel as if I read and see many stories about not giving up. Which is not bad but can get boring.

  9. 1) Upon finishing my book the lessons i learned from it was that don't look down on someone just because they look different than others. And take the friends you have for granite, and don't push them away from you. This was a good book but i don't think it would be my on my top list.
    2) I learned in this class how to use my time more wisely and to have to get my stuff done on time and its up to me to get my own stuff finished.

  10. The lessons i have learned from this book are is if you went something go for it even if you go through some ruff times to get where you want to be because eventually you get your chance to prove yourself. I feel that when i look back on this book I feel the part that will stick out the most is the never give up and stick with it part of the book because that is what Ted did and it worked out. 2. 11. What I learned from reading the prince is how to gain power and maintain it. I would put this book at the top of my list for favorites even though there was no story and it was just informative. I will remember the stuff I learned in this book for a long time. The one thing I learned in this class is to be more responsible for getting work done.

from this class i learned how to use my time wisely. the sooner you get things done the better because otherwise you are scrapping around trying to get things done

  13. I learned to live life to the fullest. The narrator in my book was dying from a growth in his brain, and still was the only reason the republic won the war. He caused the people to revolt and rebel against the Colonies. It was such a good story that I will remember for quite a while, and this is probably my third favorite book series, right behind Inheritance and Harry Potter.

I really enjoyed being able to pick my own book, and telling others about what it means to me during our group discussions.

  14. The lesson that Afterward taught me is that a friendship may develop in the most unexpected times. And it may be the best thing that has ever happened to you. I believe that this will help me in college. I have learned to keep my options open and never judge a person by their appearance. I will remember this for the rest of my life. I would probably rank this book in my top 5 favorites, and is defiantly my favorite book that I read all year.

This class taught me not to procrastinate too much. In both trimesters, more the second than the first, I stopped putting things off until the day they were due. This helped me out tremendously and greatly reduced my stress.

    1. In my book, the author tells stories about how he became acquainted with many other comedians, and a lot of his experiences are similar to those in your book. Very unexpected timing. Do you have any friends that you met at unexpected times?

    2. I totally agree that I learned to stop procrastinating because later on in life it will catch up with me and it will suck for college. If it your favorite why did you only rank it a 5?

    4. I agree that this class taught me to stop procrastinating. I learned that it just turned into a hassle and was barley able to finish the assignments outside of class. It taught me to use my time wisely.

  15. "Sick in the Head" was a very enjoyable book. After listening to what makes famous comedians tick, I think that Judd picked a very appropriate title. With me being involved in performing arts, I could relate to many of those comedians and some of the stories they had shared. Most of the lessons discussed talked mainly about how to be funny and how to be successful. The most relate-able thing was about working with different crowds and having to adapt a show to a different crowd. A speech crowd will laugh at different jokes than the football team.

The class as a whole has really helped to prepare me for college. I started online classes yesterday, and my first assignment as well. The first thing I had to do- write on an online discussion board and comment on someone else's post. Well doesn't that sound familiar?

  18. 1.) Upon finishing my book, I learned that even when people are in war and trying to kill each other there are and was people that still people that where there enemy with some sort of honor and respect. So that if the same thing would happen to them they would be treated the same. This book ranks high on my list because it has been one of my favorites so far.

In the book Bilbo looks back on his adventure and is glad of his decisions of going on the trip because of all of the friendships he made. This book also showed me that even though you might not agree with something, it might be for the best. This book is up there as one of the best I have ever read, the war aspect and the brutality of it as well as all the lessons to be learned just makes this book great.

You never know what someone's situation is, so its best to just treat people the way you would want to be treated. 29. There were many lessons that were incorporated into the reading. But ones that stuck out to me are ones we hear all the time. Never giving up is one of those. Cater was a strong, intelligent and caring young boy when his parents made him stay in school and pushed him to continue because they knew he would go far.

This class has taught me that everything is on you. Having the free time in class to get things done, but did I want to sit there and do nothing or complete my assignments to allow free time at home. It made me aware of time management and how proactive I am, even tough classmates around me didn't want to do anything I still needed to keep myself on track.

  30. Not everything has to be so serious in a book. This book "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" is just loaded with random stupid humor that makes the book fun, but keeps the plot going on like they never happened. I really liked this book, and I'd say that it would reach my top ten books of all time.

This Class as a whole has been a very relaxed experience, which is nice for people who use they're time well. However what I've learned about myself throughout this class is that I don't really use my time too well. I'll be sure to work on that when college comes, I'm going to need it.

It was easy to connect to this book because Flan is a mirror image of me. Overall this book was one of my favorites, but it's not like I would read it over and over again.

This class has taught me that I have to have time management. This is something that I struggle with sometimes, but I got better this tri. Overall the freedom was great!

  39. This book (Unbroken) has left me with a lot to think about, probably the thing that Louie left me with is having hope and being able to forgive people for their actions. He forgave everyone for what they did to him and he kept close communication with his friend that he made in the P.O.W camps.

This class has taught me to stay on task and basically have the responsibility to do what you have to do and make sure you have it done.

  40. Lone Survivor has taught me to never settle and always push on. Marcus describes many times how SEALs are always learning something new and improving themselves. They are never getting complacent. I take from that most because I recently have been trying to always keep learning and improve something about myself and never waste time. In regards to pushing on, I can already relate to that. I always know that it will get worse before it gets better so just keep fighting and stick with hope.

This class has really taught me that their is much more about a book than just words on a page. I never used to be a reader and really have always wanted to become one, but I haven't until now found the underlying messages in books.

  41. This book had many lessons with it, one was never giving up. Brian was always forced to never give up, because being a long snapper in the NFL, you are faced with a lot of adversity. When I look back at the Long Snapper 5 years from now, it will remind me to treat everyday day of your life like it was your last and to always keep faith. This book ranks in my top 5 favorite. The book was more than a football book, it was a life event.

This class has taught me to be prepared, because if your not Mrs. B might get mad. Now that I'm done with high school and starting college this fall, I need to get more organize. I learn to use my time wisely in this class, because if you don't you might fall behind.

  43. The Finest Hour has taught me to always try your best in everything I do, and to never give up. Bernie and his crew could have made up a excuse or even just stay at the boat house but they knew it was their duty to go out and save lives and they did just that. When the struggles got worse they didn't turn back and give up... they kept on going towards their destination. In 5 to 10 years when I look back on this book I am going to remember how these 4 brave men put their lives at risk to go out into a awful storms with 70 foot waves to save 35 men. It is just incredible and easily ranks in my top 10 favorite books I have read.

English 10 was a blast Ms. Broadbent and I seriously am going to miss it. I like how you let us goof around as long as we got our work done which teaches us that goofing around causes us to do more work later on, and of course I think I have become a better writer because of this class.

  45. One thing Dawn has really taught me is to take the little things for granted because someone could have it worse than you. I am so blessed to be in America because I cannot imagine going through what some of those people had to got through. One thing that will stick with me is Elie story and like imagery that he has shared. I liked the first book better but it was also a great book.

This class has taught me to reflect on things. To get your stuff done early so you do not have to worry about it.

  49. My book Siddhartha, was essentially written for lessons. Not only was there the main lesson of finding yourself and where your path is in life, it also had very many hidden lessons wedged between the lines. There was the lesson to not let your mistake define you, but define how you react to things and how you will approach future situations. It also shows that knowledge isn't everything. Life will not fully be lived, if you are not fully awakened. You must see the world for it's beauty and grace. You must connect with nature and become at peace with yourself. When you achieve that, then,at that moment, you are truly living.

I also learn responsibility, organization skills, and how to be very independent. I learned responsibily through having to finish things on time, for if you don't you won't have a very good discussion. I learned organization skills and independence through the calendars. Getting to set up my own deadlines for my book helped me understand my own pace and achievements.

  50. My book Speak taught me that it is okay to speak up sometimes, and to let people get close. this book is probably one of my favorites now. I'll remember would be that now matter what happens in life only you can make that choice to move on or speak up.

This class has taught me how to work with a variety of people, to be responsible, and to make sure to meet your deadlines.
