Blog Response #2
Choose a character from your book. How do you envision this character? Use your words to describe how this character looks, acts, and behaves. Also, discuss the impact this character has had on the story up to this point. Would you be friends with this character, or would you avoid him/her? Why? (Remember to give specific details and a complete blog entry, and don't forget to comment on two other blog entries! Happy Blogging!)
I chose the character Walker. He seems to be the character i most connect with. I envision him a medium built kid that is very smart. I think he seems to care a lot about each one of his friends. He is the friend that will back his friends up no matter what. I think that shows what a good friend is. I would definitely be his friend. He seems like a great friend with respect for his friends.
ReplyDeleteI agree with how you envision him. I also believe he is a smart guy and very caring.
DeleteThat is a wonderful trait to have while being friends with someone. How has made an impact though? That's also great that you can connect with a character in your book. I too can connect to a character in my book. I believe it is very important to connect to at least one character in a book, otherwise the book becomes a very dry read. Great blog!
DeleteThis reminds me of Louie in Running Loose, hes built but not very tall.He has friends too. What other character is walkers friend?
DeleteIt seems that since his parents are distant from him, his friends are just his family.
Delete-Nick Botts-
ReplyDeleteJennifer Lawless in my head looks like a pretty athletic, and attractive young woman. The way that she is described in the book is that she is one of the most athletic girls at the school and maybe even the state, dominating the basketball court. Jennifer has had a massive impact on Dillon's life so far in the book, almost like a challenge to him to help her with her issues. I normally don't hang around all the athletic type people, but she seem's to be different from the rest because of her past, so possibly?
What exactly is different about her from the rest of the athletic group of people?
DeleteYeah I agree with your description of Jen, and I think that I would like to be friends with Jen she seems nice, and unlike Dillon she is more respectful and studious, a good influence to be around unlike Dillon or Stacy who are always in trouble and skipping school.
Deletei think she is a challenge to him but also to help each other come together and realize they both can help each other through both their awful past
DeleteI agree with you Nick that Jen also had a huge impact in the book with Dillon; who are both fighters and help each other along the way and made there friendship grow stronger.
DeleteI am choosing the charter Sarah Brynes from my book. I see her as a young high school student with terrible burns on her face. I picture her as a small, skinny, and innocent looking girl. But, Sarah acts way different than she looks. She has a temper and stands up for herself. She does not let people walk over her. Sarah has a sassy attitude. I like this about her because of some of the comments she makes to people in the book. Sarah has a big impact in this story. I have finished the book so looking back at the whole book she is the one of the main characters for the story of this book. The book mostly revolves around her present and past life. I would probably be friends with Sarah but her attitude would be hard to put up with. I have a hard time dealing with people like this but Sarah also has a good side to her.
ReplyDeleteI also agree she would be small and frail looking! She really does have a temper and being friends with her might be difficult, but at least she would have ways of getting you out of trouble(Plead the Fifth). Great blog by the way!
DeleteHer comments are pretty funny. I agree with you though about how it would be hard to put up with her.
DeleteNow that you've finished the book, is it one that you would recommend to others?
DeleteI agree with fact that Sarah has a huge temper. I myself would find it extremely hard to be friends with someone who shuts everyone out as much as she does.
DeleteShe is pretty funny and her attitude would be hard to deal with.
DeleteThe main character Sarah Byrnes has had a major impact on the story. I see her as having long blonde hair, a round face, and purple burn marks in the shape of a crescent moon. She is very bull-headed and strong. She is extremely smart and witty. She has some major sass to her and knows how to really use her resources. She has been a major part of the story, for she is the main subject of attention in the story. It starts off with Eric explaining his life and then it flashes to Sarah Byrnes in the hospital. It then constantly flashes back to the past with hers and Eric's life. She is Eric's best friend and helps him out so much. I myself would also be friends with her, for she is very similar to my best friend. I also feel life would be such an adventure with her, but I would be very scared of her father. I still would be friends with her though.
ReplyDeleteI agree it would i would be terrified of her father, that would make it difficult to be her friend being so terrified of her father.
Deletewould you think of Sarah the same without the burns on her
DeleteYour description of her is pretty sound, and her father is very scary.
DeleteIn my book, Running Loose, I believe Louie looks goofy. I base my looks off the red shirted person on the cover of the book. Louie to me has an above average nose size. His lips are rosy red and could save his life if he was going to drown. His hair is jet black and when he is sweaty McDonalds uses his hair grease in at least 5 friers. The length of it is Derek Ahmann length. He behaves like a five year old most of the time and that is sporadically. I think this because every little thing that doesn't go his way in the book he complains about. Like when Washington got murdered on the field he acted way worse than he should have. This kid would be my friend because he is 'ight.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean you would be his friend because he is 'ight?
DeleteI love the humor! Can his lips really be used as a flotation device? Are they really that big? I don't really think I could handle being friends with someone who is overly dramatic. But I'm glad you would give him the chance.
Delete@ZachWillenborg I mean he'd be a little embarrassing to hang with sometimes, due to anytime something doesn't go his way he gets angry.
DeleteYo back off my group member Derek. You making fun of his flo bro? You trying to start a group fight?
DeleteI agree sort of. I could hang out with him.
DeleteDo you connect with him at all. If so what are some of the main things you connect with.
DeleteI chose to talk about Nortie, one of the swimmers in the main group of friends. I envision Norton Wheeler as a big strong guy, but also really calm. I think he looks strong and proportioned well. He is just a big guy. I see his bruises from his dad beating him too. Although he is beat I think he is relaxed and to himself most of the time. Maybe a little cautious. Nortie has impacted the story greatly, from being one of the best swimmers, going through Stotan Week like it is a cake-walk, and being apart of a lot of one-sided conflicts towards him in the middle chapters of the book. I believe Nortie would be a really good friend to have, I could be at his side and I know he would be at my side as well. I would help with his troubles with his father, and pretty much expect the same things Nortie does for Walker for me. I think he would be a great friend, or even an acquaintance.
ReplyDeleteI also picture Nortie as a big and fit guy. He seems to deal with his father beating him very well and always is still calm dealing with it. I agree that with him in the book it has created more conflict and made it an interesting book.
DeleteI picture Boomer as a 7 ft tall guy, really muscular with a big belly. I also see him with a face that has no expression or any facial features that would make him stick out. He also walks around saying what ever hops into his head but if someone says anything to him he will beat them. I feel i would be friends with him because then if i say something stupid to him that he doesn't like he is less likely to beat my ass.
ReplyDeleteI picture boomer as a big kid that is very built kid but i don't see him with a big belly and I see him as a guy that would do anything he can.
DeleteI took boomer as a shorter guy but very muscle guy. I felt boomer has no emotion and comes across that he has no filter on what he says or does. I always feel that me and Boomer would not get along.
DeleteI imagine Louie as being a taller guy who is in good shape. He has brown hair and eyes. He seems to be the type of guy who would normally act shy and try to avoid talking to people that he didn't know. He probably slacks a little bit during school. Other than that he is well mannered and very respectful to his peers. I would like to be around him because he is very laid back and doesn't let everything get to him. He has had a huge impact on the story. The story follows Louie around and explains all of the significant events that happened. It goes into detail about the football and what happened during the game against Salmon River, about Becky and what ends up happening between the two, and Louie's track season as well.
ReplyDeleteI too picture Louie as a laid back person who slacks in school, but I also see him as a hard worker who puts his best effort into the tasks he wants to achieve.
DeleteI agree with the description of him and how he acts.
DeleteI too see him being laid back
DeleteSarah is who I picked. I think of her as a person in a hospital bed that needs to get up and be strong. she is a great person to talk to. I would never avoid her. I would most definitely be friends with her because she never gives up on trying to find her mother in Reno. Sarah has been in a hospital bed and now she has gotten out of it to go find her mother in Reno with Lemry.
ReplyDeleteI see Sarah as not as a girl in the hospital bed, but as a girl sitting in a chair staring blankly at wall while people try to communicate with her.
Delete(Running Loose) Norm is tall, has some gray hair, muscular and good looking. He acts in ways that people know he is not threatening and fatherly. His behavior is very formal. He is always there to help out Louie with any questions and problems. I would be friends with Norm because he would look out for you.
ReplyDeleteNorm is a good guy and he acts as almost an ace in the hole for Louie. Either in front of the school board, or lying to his mother, Norm is always willing to help.
DeleteIn Sotan, Nortie is a mentally strong person. I imagine that he is shorter but also muscular since he competitively swims. I also think of him being a shy but honest person. He can also be selfless and think about others before himself. With growing up with his abusive father he learned that he can handle anything. Nortie has made a huge impact within the story, with the stories that he has shared, he made the bond between the swimming team even stronger. His past gave him something to fight for during stotan week. I would be friends with Nortie because I see him as an honest person, and even though his dad is abusive, he always pushed past that and tried living life to the fullest.
ReplyDeleteIt can not say that I envision him as a shorter guy. Probably shorter than Lion and Jeff but still tall I think. I like how you brought up he can handle anything, including Stotan week and how their stories bonded the group.
DeleteI also agree that Norties part in the story was definitely the most interesting. He has so much backstory to him!
DeleteI would have to agree with Nortie being a very honest person. I think his past has made him into the person he is today because it has made his friendships stronger. I agree with bring friends with him as well because of his personality!
DeleteI feel like he is not as strong as the others. I see him as being a nerdy guy but he is fun to be around once you get to know him. If Nortie was not in the book who would be the other character you would pick?
DeleteI agree that Nortie is a stronger guy, but i think he would probably be a little taller as a swimmer. I think everybody agrees that they could be friends with Nortie and help him deal with hi dad being abusive.
DeleteI agree that Nortie is a character that stands out to most because of his life background. But he doesn't let that get to him. He enjoys swimming and working at the daycare with the children.
DeleteI choose Boomer Cowans. I envision this character to be huge jock that plays on the football field, also he is really dumb, so it fits this criteria. And, for some reason I picture him brown eyes an brown hair. He impacts Louie life a lot, he picks on him and beats him up. no I wouldn't be friends with this character because he is a dumb jock and a bully.
ReplyDelete:) I agree with your description and your choice to be friends with him, we here at Western Dubuque do not stand for that type of violence.
DeleteI totally agree with him being a dumb jock and a bully
DeleteOH I SEE. Would this guy be a good addition to our track team?
DeleteDo you see aanyone in our school who resembles Boomer?
DeleteI think he would be! he can run a 4:20.00 mile
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteWho do you think resembles Boomer Cowans the most in your life?
DeleteKevin Specht:
ReplyDeleteI choose Dillon From Chinese Handcuffs. I envision Dillon as being fairly average in appearance with brown hair, brown eyes, and a lean athletic build. I think he would usually be seen wearing either athletic clothes or a simple t-shirt and jeans. I see Dillon as having a bold disposition and a tendency to speak out especially when someone doesn't agree with him or tries to get him to do something he doesn't agree with. This character has a big impact on the story as he is figuring out how his relationship with Jen and Stacy, while dealing with the death of his brother and trying to solve a myriad of other problems with those around him. I don't think I would want to be friends with Dillon because of his attitude and the way he always is always getting in fights with the principal and getting suspended from school. I wouldn't want someone like that in my life in fear of ending up like him.
Running loose. I picture Louie as a kid that is about 6 ft tall that is a very fit kid. Louie is a very well behaved that knows when to quit with something. Louie can be very stubborn at times with other people when they try to prove him wrong. Louie is the main character in the book and has a very big impact on the book, the book would be a very different story if the main character wasn't Louie. I would be friends with Louie he is a nice kid that means well.
ReplyDeleteDo you feel that you share any characteristics with Louie?
DeleteNo i don't feel that i share any characteristics with Louie.
DeleteDo you agree with the things Louie does such as the quitting football?
Deleteyes i agree with what Louie is doing like quitting football because he is standing up for himself and making a point.
DeleteI agree with you describing Louie as being very stubborn.
DeleteRunning Loose-I picture Louie as a individual that is about 6 foot tall 170lbs. Louie has a way of acting like he cares a lot when it comes to people he truly cares about. Louie has a soft heart with big intentions. I feel that Louie is kind of stubborn in ways of looking out to find new friends and also with holding a grudge against people. I feel that I could get along with a person like Louie because of the work ethic and some of the interests that he has. The book Running Loose would not have the same perspective if Louie was not the main character in the book because of his traits.
ReplyDeletei agree too. louie is very caring. he knows what people he needs to impress and others, like boomer, he knows that he doesnt need to impress them bc he is already better than them
DeleteIn the book Stotan! the character that pops out the most to me is Nortie. Nortie is one of the main characters and to me, one of my favorites. The way I imagine Nortie is someone who is short with little muscle. I don't see him a tall, muscular guy because of the way he acts. He is some what timid in the beginning of the book, but now is starting to warm up to the other characters. In the book he has no clue what Stotan week is, but finds out in a hurry what it really is. Nortie comes from a very hard background and when he talks about it to his friends, it makes their friendships stronger and now people really understand him. I would be friends with him because he really seems like a nice guy and someone who is easy to talk to. Once you get to know him he is pretty awesome!
ReplyDeleteI agree that Nortie is a favorite in the book. the plot recently has been based about his life and choices. I also think he is shy but with sharing about his hard background he has become more social with his friends.
DeleteI agree with what you think about Nortie. Do you see him as being nerdy, because I do just the way he acts. But he really became more talkative and outgoing when he shred his background story.
DeleteIn the book Stotan, Nortie is the character that catches my attention the most. He is a champion swimmer looking to return back at state for his last year with all of his friends. When he is in the water he is fast and smooth, but when his is out he is a nervous and sometimes can be hard on himself. The way I imagine Nortie is being kinda of nerdy and has bruises all around his body. Nortie is a kind hearted person because of the way he works with little kids at a daycare. Nortie is a character that has the most impact in story because his past has effected each of the characters, it made the characters more connected with him and have a stronger bond. Also the way his dad treats him has a effect on most of the characters which gets bought up a lot in the story. I probably would be friends with him because he seems like a nice person once you get to know him and his past.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Nortie is a huge part of the Novel. His family isn't the most stable or supportive, but he has support from his friends and coaches to excel in his passion of swimming.
DeleteI would have to agree that Norite is one of my favorites and is one who you can't stop thinking about. What about his past that makes you connect to him the most?
DeleteI picked Sarah Byrnes. When I envision her I see a small skinny girl with a lot of burn scares on her arm and face. Sarah has that attitude that can get stuff done. She can be ether very nice or make you wish you never new her. She put the biggest impact on the story. She is constantly having flashbacks form her past. Her best friend Eric helps her deal with them. I could see my self being friends with her.
ReplyDeletewould you think different of Sarah if she did not have the burns on her.
DeleteNo I would not
DeleteWOuld you relate Sarah to any friends you have? if so... is she/he a good or bad friend?
DeleteIn the novel Stotan! the character that stands out the most to me and has an impact on the novel is Nortie. He is a young man in high school. I envision him with dark hair, tall, athletic and hurt. He comes from a family where struggles conflict with their actions. Nortie is constantly abused by his father, while his mother won't do anything about it because she is to afraid too. Nortie doesn't do anything about it either, he won't turn his father in. Nortie works in a child daycare. His interactions with kids is outstanding. He is natural with kids. Nortie has an important role the novel. He shows that you can do anything even though his home isn't the safest and warmest environment. He sets his goals high and strides to achieve them. I would consider being friends with Nortie because he has an uplifting personality ever though his lift is rough. He enjoys being with kids and that shows he can always bring out the good in life, also he had determination to succeed in swimming.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Nortie is outstanding in child care and I feel that he wants to be a role model to kids since he never had one in his own life. Also his hard background gives him something to fight for during swim competitions.
DeleteI would have to choose Nortie from Stotan! because he is my favorite character for a few reasons. Nortie really has the most interesting background and description to him. I envision him as a chiseled, semi thick guy whose a little bit on the taller side. I see him having blond, longer hair with blue eyes. Norties a very quiet kid but also has a very kind heart. Hes a good friend, whose extremely caring. I could see myself being friends with Nortie, he really has no bad qualities to him.
ReplyDeleteACTUALLY I envision him completely opposite! But it sounds like you have a crush on this character. Do you envy him?
Deletesounds like you really like him, whos your second favorite character.
Deletemy second favorite would be walker, cause hes cute
DeleteHow do you know hes cute? what do you picture him looking like? since hes cute.
DeleteI took the same perspective of Boomer. I feel that Boomer is almost completely brain dead because he does not care about school. Boomer I feel has a rude awaking in the future because of his actions he hass made.
ReplyDeleteBoomer is just a big bully who thinks he is better than every one else.
ReplyDeleteIn Running Loose i envision Carter as an athlete. he is fast, strong and athletic. i imagine him as a pretty muscular guy who is about 6'1" Carter is a very calm and composed and that makes him a very good sports player. Carter has helped louie get through his problems and always seems to calm the mood. I would definitely be friends with carter because he is a good friend and he helps people with their problems.
ReplyDeleteCarter=Bradan?
Deletei also picture carter as a strong, calm, and collected guy
DeleteI agree, I like that he is nice to Louie too because that shows that is caring and is willing to help others.
Deletei choose Dillon Hemingway i envision dillion as a strong and very athletic person. i see him always wearing shorts and a t-shirt he likes to be athletic but wont play any sports for his high school. dillion has a huge impact on this story as he goes through his life living without his brother preston and trying to figure out who he wants to be with jennifer or stacy. i think he could be a cool person to hang with
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree with you that Dillon is a very strong and athletic person. I got that picture of him from when Preston descried him before he killed himself. I would also have to agree that he probably wears a lot of shorts and a t-shirt. He runs for a stress reliever, and is the trainer for the girls basketball team, and he wears sweats to the game so how would practice be any different.
DeleteI agree when I imaged Dillon I see him as s strong athletic person who's canny when it come to helping his friends.
DeleteI would also agree that Dillon probably just wears a t-shirt and short/sweats everyday. He just seems like a very laidback person and doesn't care about his image.
DeleteI agree, Dillon has to be a very athletically built person after finishing and winning a triathlon. I envision him to be a very lean person because of all the running he does.
DeleteI feel the same way about boomer as you do but I can see where you are coming from as Boomer being like Matt but I can't see Matt being that relate able to boomer.
ReplyDeletePhysically Boomer is Schem. But other than that Schem is a real teddy bear and is not dumb. He also does not stick his 'Ol Norton into popcorn bags.
ReplyDeleteI chose Eric Calhoune also known as Moby. He is a heavier set kid, and he is a long distant swimmer. He would be chubby, but with muscle. He is loyal to his friend Sarah Byrnes, has a sense of humor, and is not afraid to strike back. The impact he has on my book is that he is trying to find out and help Sarah Byrnes out with her past. I would be friends because him because we would always be there for each other, and it would be fun with his humor.
ReplyDeleteI agree in the book he is a funny guy and will do anything for his friends.
DeleteI picture carter as a tall and muscular and has brown hair. Hes very calm and collective and knows what hes doing when he plays. Reminds me of myself when i played football i was very calm and never freaked out. I always took one play at a time.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I think Carter just embraces the grind on and off the football field. His impact on Louie is huge.
Deletei agree Danny. Carter has a massive impact on louies life.
DeleteI see Carter as having the same body build like Boomer being tall an muscular but a lot smarter and a much better person. Carter seems to have the entire football team under his control and is the person everyone looks up too. Carter has been pushing Louie along and being there to help him when he needs it through out the story. Hes definitely someone i would want to be friends with because he looks the all the possible outcomes and tries to show you what is best.
ReplyDeleteWow sounds like a great guy
Deletecan you relate to him at all
DeleteDo you think Carter feels bad for Louie at times and that is why he is always there for him?
DeleteI choose the character Louie Banks because he is the most interesting character in the book. I envision Louie as Peter LaFluer from the movie "Dodgeball The Underdog Story" because the entire book Louie seems to be the underdog in every way with sports just like Peter in the movie. Louie also has the biggest impact on the book with the Washington & Becky's funeral incident.
ReplyDeleteIn Dodgeball Paul's mentor died. In the book Louie's "mentor" died.
DeleteHow do you feel about the way Louie talked at the funeral?
DeleteI feel like Louie should have kept it in instead of making a scene and making a big deal out of nothing
DeleteI agree and just like the movie they did their best to make there mentor proud.
DeleteI like where your going with this because i thought the same but id much rather be around schem than boomer any day.
ReplyDeleteWhen i imagine what carter looks like i picture him being like 6'2". Jacked out of his mind with dark brown short hair. I see him being a ladies man kinda like myself. I see him as a hard worker athletically and academically. For the personal side of his life i see him being very laid back very calm and super nice to everyone, so i could see me and carter being friends. I think carter has a big impact on Louie keeping him in line and teaching him what hard work is.
ReplyDeletewhat would you and carter talk about in a coversation
ReplyDeleteI would say we would talk about sports, the girls we go to school with, and about our future after highschool
DeleteWhen i think of a character to picture, i think of boomer. i think that boomer is medium height with very broad and round shoulders. he reminds me of a bulldog. i also think that he isnt just mean to louie, i think that he is mean to everyone. he carries his anger over from his home life and he takes it out on other people. i think that towards the end of the book he realizes that its not just him that has the bad home life.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% with you he is a guy who takes his pain from home and carries it to school. And I would also agree he is a big guy who is built like a tank.
DeleteSo would Boomer remind you at all of your brother? Because when I think of Boomer the first person that comes ti my mind is your brother
DeleteDo you think you would try to avoid him because of his anger at it seams to be everyone. or do you think sometimes he would be nice.
DeleteI am reading Chinese Handcuffs. The character I choose to talk about is Jen. I feel like she is someone I could get along with and befriends with, because I feel like our personalities are similar. Unless she wanted me to do what she had Dillon do, and keep her horrible secret. Jen seems like she is a quite, smart athletic girl. And she acts like everything is okay when it really isn't.
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree, I don't think that I could keep Jen's secret if she told me. Dillon has done a very good job of keeping Jen's secret, probably better than I could.
DeleteI think Dale Thornton is a tall kid with a medium built weighing in around 200 pounds. I think he dresses with old worn down clothing. He has an intimidating look, that makes anyone scared of him. I would try to avoid him because he doesn't look friendly.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion Sarah Byrnes is the main character in the book. the story is told from Eric's point of view, but it is all about Sarah. Sarah is a person who had a very bad upbringing. When she was three she was burned on her face. I imagine her face to look similar to Freddy Kruger. Because of her childhood she can't come to trust anyone. She seems to be a very mean person with a closed heart. I myself would probably not be friends with her. Not just because of her looks, but her personally. She doesn't seem friendly or open minded. She has impacted this book the most because the plot is centered around saving her. She needs to be saved from her dad, the authorities, and herself. If she wasn't in the story, Eric wouldn't have a friend in middle school, and he would be skinny.
ReplyDeleteI chose Boomer. When I think of Boomer I see a towering giant who is obviously the strongest guy around and constantly has a look of hatred on his face. I imagine him constantly thinking he is the biggest and baddest guy around even though he may actually not be. He is constantly showing every person he encounters with disrespect just to show his dominance. I would try my hardest to avoid Boomer because like Louie I can be a smart ass and Boomer doesn't always understand this. If i gave Boomer a smart remark he would probably try to start a fight with me which i would not win because he is like 3 feet taller than me, so it would be in my best interest to avoid him.
ReplyDeleteI find it funny he kind of sounds like a friend of mine minus the strong and tall guy. I would also agree Boomer is that exact way.
DeleteI don't think Boomer is well described as the strongest guy around because he doesn't push himself as others due. Probably one of the strongest and definitely the meanest guy around.
Deletei can see me and Louie getting along in this book. i say that because during football season boomer was being a jerk to one of the colored football players on the other team and Louie stepped up and told boomer about his self. lol not only because im black i would of did the same for louie.
ReplyDeleteI would have to choose Dakota from the book Running Loose. I would imagine him being 6'2" and weighting in about 180lbs. He would also have 4 inches of greasy black hair and medium build. He would have a bikers jacket and a hook for a hand. I says this cause he works at a bar and in the book hes like a mentor to Louie. on top of that hes probably a smart guy who goes one day at time and is usually in a good mood. At first I would probably stay away from him because of his looks but over time I would probably be his friend because he is a genuinely a good guy.
ReplyDeleteReally? I always imagined Dakota as being a short, stout, wise old man who is always there for Louie. Why do you imagine him being so tall?
Deletejust what i imagine out of a bartender and mentor
Deletereminds me of dylan gottoooooooo
DeleteI chose Carter from the book Running Loose. I see Carter as a 5'10 kid who is very muscular and fit. I picture him with short brown hair and brown eyes. Carter is a very hard worker and he's very carrying for his friend Louie. Throughout the book you can tell that Carter only wants the best for Louie. I definitely would be friends with Carter because I think he would make me a better person and would push me to be better.
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree Orange because Carter seems like a leader on and off the field and supports Louie no matter what.
DeleteI agree with both of you, Louie is very lucky to have a friend like that
DeleteBoomer is possibly the most arrogant character I have ever read about. He tries incredibly hard to show that every one is below him. For example when running their first mile in football practice Boomer sprinted past Louie to finish first just to make a point that he is faster, and then every mile after he didn't even try to outpace him. He can best be described as a production of his father good nature, non-existent. He is continually part of the story trying to fight Louie or just cause harm. He made his way into the main plot of the story by being the one to injure Washington. If I had ever met him my first instinct would be to avoid him due to his quickness in getting angered, and his unwillingness to talk about it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, as I said once before, Boomer is an agitated bear in a man-suit.
DeleteI choose to do Preston from Chinese Handcuffs. Preston reminds me of scruffy person who doesn't care about anybody but himself,in a bicker gang, does drugs, screwed up his life and Stacy's life by getting her pregnant, paralyzed so he's probably jacked, mentally insane, tall with brown hair with blue eyes and a bearded. He has a major part in the book because of his brother Dillon. Dillon writes letters to him to express his felling and what's going in Dillon life since Preston killed himself so that's the only way Dillon can cope from his death; and there flashbacks to him and Preston when they were younger doing dumb stuff. would I ever be friends with Preston, no Preston is a crazy lunatic who doesn't care about is actions and the matter of fact he killed a cat and took his brother with him to kill himself in front of his brother I mean who does that.
ReplyDeleteI would have never thought about doing Preston since he technically isn't in our book. Its just his brothers views of him. But form what Dillon said about Preston I to agree with you. How he lived his life really explained his views. He is definitely not someone that I would want to hang out with. I feel like from the beginning Preston was a trouble maker. He was always the one to come up with the bad actions that Dillon and him did.
DeleteI agree with Marissa that Preston is a person who only cares about himself. The way he presented himself to Dillon before and after his death would be good examples of how selfish he could be. On the other hand Preston acting the way he did, definitely made the book interesting.
DeleteI chose Boomer, I see him as a jacked short kid that has had a rough life and chooses Louie to take out him frustration on and to beat him in any way he can except with his head. he acts this way because his father hasn't taught him the right way to act and in turn has made Louies life worse. boomer has a big role in this book even though he doesn't show much, he is always there when Louie is having a rough time, either to bully him more or to help him (like at the funeral). I would avoid Boomer because I personally don't like people that act mean and bully others of no reason. I would not want to be his friend.
ReplyDeleteI chose Sarah Byrnes, she in Eric's words is the most ugliest human being outside of the circus. She is smart, a B#@!% when she wants to be. She also cares about a lot of people, even if she doesn't have any friends besides Eric she is nice to others. You just need to call her by her full name and she'll answer. To me she's an amazing women, even though she's been through a lot.
ReplyDeleteHe is a good person and I think I would be friends with him to.
DeleteI also agree with you Ryan. You seem like the person who would be just like Eric ;)
Deleteidk he would have to make up for all the hell he would have gave me to be friend.
DeleteI choose walker and vision him as a leader. Walker is the captain of Frost swim team and is a role model for the rest of his team. He is very fit and is often responsible for taking control of situations in a calm and respectable manner.
ReplyDeleteHe kind of makes sure his friends don't get into serious trouble, and I agree that he is responsible for them.
DeleteI chose Louie because he is my favorite character. I envisage him as a guy with short brown hair, standing somewhere around 5'10". As far as his personality goes, I was astounded by how similar he is to myself. We are are both massive smart@$$es, but he is very rash and impulsive. He acts without thinking whereas I will occasionally even overthink what I do. I think it's safe to say that Louie has had the biggest impact on the story, considering that without him there would be no story.
ReplyDeleteI have so many angry comments when ever Louie is being rash and impulsive, which unfortunately for me there are many times when he is being rash and impulsive.
DeleteYes, but I think it makes for a good, believable character. nobody is perfect after all, and impulsiveness is a common enough trait.
DeleteI agree, louie really needs to start thinking before he speaks and acts
DeleteI chose the Eric because he is a good guy and a very likable character. I imagine Eric as a 5'10" and a little heavy. I would be friends with him because it seems he would do anything for his friends.
ReplyDeleteI choose Louie from Running Loose. I envision Louie as a very fit athlete. He is very toned and he is average looking. He worries about what other people think. For example, he never has a girlfriend because he doesnt want her to be upset when they break up. Louie has a pretty big impact on the book, for he is the main character/ narrator. I dont know if i would be friends with louie or not. He is a lot more athletic than i am so we probably dont hang out with the same crowd. But if we were in that small of a town, we might get along.
ReplyDeleteI feel like Louie would be the kid that would get along with everyone, mainly because he works at his Dad's gas station. Everyone in that town gets gas from Norm, and everyone sees Louie working, and I'm sure they've gotten to know him a little. Alex, I'm sure you'd get to know Louie every time you swung by the station in the Duramax.
DeleteThat is a very good point Nathan, i never thought about it like that. But as to the question if we'd be friends or not, i cant really answer that. I'd like to think we would though
DeleteRunning Loose. I choose Becky as my character. I picture Becky as tall, dark hair, and friendly, just as Louie described her. She seems to be someone that is always there when you need her; like when Louie quit the football team she was always there for him and kept him thinking straight. She has had an impact on this book because she helps Louie and has a big role in the book towards the end. I feel I would be her friend because she is nice, outgoing, and caring which are characteristics of my friends.
ReplyDeleteI choose the character Jennifer Lawless. I envision her as a tall, athletic, and strong-hearted person. I would say she behaves very shy, but considering her situations with her dads I don't blame her. Jennifer has a very big impact on this story. Practically half the book is about her life, as well as her relationships with family/friends. I think I would be friends with Jennifer she she seems like she needs trustworthy people in her life during this book.
ReplyDeleteI am choosing Nortie because he is a champion swimmer looking to return to this year's state swim meet with his buddies to finish off their senior season and the school's last year of hosting a swim team. In the water, Nortie is fast and smooth; everywhere else, he can be nervous and hard on himself. But that has a lot to do with the stuff he's been forced to live with at home. His dad beats the crap out of him and his mom. His dad used to beat up on his brother too until his brother committed suicide. We probably know more about Nortie than any other character. It seems like wherever Walker is Nortie is. I would be Nortie's friend, but I would avoid his house and family. For the reason that he gets beat by his dad.
ReplyDeleteDo you feel like you share some of the same traits as Nortie?
DeleteNortie did have a tough childhood growing up and like you said i think i would be friends with him too.
DeleteWhat other character would have you chosen?
DeleteI visualize Louie's father, Norm, as Bob Saget. For whatever reason, the mention of a Dad in the 70's/80's makes me think of him from the TV Show "Full House". Louie describes Norm as a very intelligence man, and throughout the book we see that. Norm is very patient and is very thoughtful with all of his decisions. Bob's facial features and glasses scream intelligence at me as well. Without Norm in the story, Louie would have made a lot of his choices differently throughout the plot.
ReplyDeleteNorm is definitely a smart guy. He knows exactly what to say all of the time.
DeleteAfter looking at how you describe him and your entire post I take it as you feel you would like him in real life.
DeleteI'm reading the book Stotan, and I chose Lion. From the book, Lion is a big guy, but also an artist, that lives alone. The impact he has is his leadership skills, by pushing his friends through obstacles. I would definitely be his friend. He would be a great person to be friends with
ReplyDeleteWhy did you choose Lion over the other characters?
DeleteWhy did you choose Lion over the other characters?
DeleteI agree lion is pretty great, if you had to choose who would be your second favorite character?
DeleteI agree i think i would be friends with Lion also.
DeleteI picture Becky about 5'8", with brown hair, brown eyes, and according to the book she was beautiful. She seemed like a very nice girl and really always is happy. Becky has had a big impact on this book up until she died. She has kept Louie happy through out the book and is basically Louie's backbone. I think I would be friends with her because she seems like a nice person and someone who would be fun to hang out with. She supported Louie when he quit football team and you know somebody has your back when a lot of people are against you, but she still has your back and that is a true friend.
ReplyDeleteSo OP Grim... what was dillon's shining moment in this book?
ReplyDeleteI chose the character Lion. I think i would be friends with Lion in real life. He seems like a good friend and someone that is very funny. He lives on his own because his parents died when he was younger. I think he is someone who would stick up for is friends when it is needed.
ReplyDeleteI think tall and athletic is very accurate for Dillon, however when you say strong, I wouldn't personally think muscular. I would more think of his stature to be more like a cross country runner. The "sports" that he does are all about endurance, rather than short bursts of strength.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book Chinese handcuffs and the the character that i choose is Dillon. I see him as a taller with an average look but be a little more athletic looking. I also see him as the type of person to speak out against something he doesn't believe in.This character has a big impact on the story, as he is trying to figure out how to deal with the death of his brother, and his relationship with Jen and Stacey. I think that i would like to be friends with Dillon because he likes to stand up for what he believes in.
ReplyDeleteI chose Nortie in the book Stotan! He is one of the strongest people in the school physically and mentally. He gets beat daily by his father and still goes through life with a positive attitude. His brother also committed suicide over getting beat when Nortie was very young still. I think he would be a great person to have as a friend since he is so caring and even childish, and he would fight to defend his friends.
ReplyDeleteI agree a 100% that he is one of the strongest people in the school physically and mentally. He is one tough guy!
DeleteI chose the character Walker from the book Stotan! I envision Walker as this tall/ medium but muscular man. I think he is confident, caring, and all around a great guy. I think Walker plays a huge part of this book because it is written in his point of view. I also think that he holds everything together because he is like the puzzle piece you need to complete the picture. I would be friends with this character because he is the type of person you would want to have as your friend cuz he is always there know matter what.
